Swift Fox Farms

Established 2023.

We’re a small family hobby farm, and I’m a teacher. I am deeply grateful for the gifts of food, flowers, and gathered gifts that a homestead gives- but I am most grateful for the life lessons that there are to learn when being outside, observing the seasons, and connecting with the natural world.

We’ve created a space for learning, play and exploration, in the open air with wide views of the Bitterroot Valley. I am excited to bring my love of the outdoors and my experience as a teacher and a camp director together, and teach and share what I love the most.

Katie Wyskiver, Owner and Director

I’m a certified K-12 Montana teacher. I earned my B.A. degree at Ohio University, and continued to earn my M.A. and teaching certificate at the University of Montana. I’ve been teaching in Western Montana since 2007, working with students of all ages- from preschool through university.

Teaching is my calling, and I do it best outdoors! I’ve spent the past 10 summers volunteering as a teacher, and then director, at a non-profit week-long, overnight camp. I’ve also learned so much in my experience with preschool and summer camps at Sweet Pea Outdoor School in Kalispell, MT. Being outdoors connects us with one another and the living world all around. It opens all our five senses, along with our hearts- and there is something so special about exploring, learning and having fun under our incredible big sky.

My husband and I have lived in and around the Missoula and Bitterroot Valley since 2007, before moving to Stevensville in 2019. It has been a pure joy to become a part of this community, for us, our daughter and son. I am so grateful to call this valley home, and am so excited to stretch our roots and see where this outdoor learning program grows!

Staff

I will finalize staff in the Spring, but would like to share my expectations regarding adults and/or high-school students that will teach and aid with camp:

  • Must pass a background check.

  • Must have experience working with children.

  • Must complete a safety training; including EPI-pen and Dechoker operation and protocol.

  • Must share an excitement for outdoor learning, a willingness to be resilient, and a commitment to integrating nature, movement and play in learning experiences wherever possible while learning to minimize our impact.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach.”
- Henry David Thoreau
